Summer is almost here and so is the BIA Summer Reading Challenge! Who can read the most books this summer?
- Read every day for at least 15 – 30 minutes
- Grades K-2 Students: read 10 books (independently or with help)
- Grades 3-5 Students: read 8 books
- Grades 6-HS Students: read 5 fiction books & 5 non-fiction books
A BIA Summer Reading List of suggested titles we feel support academic content and are grade level appropriate has been compiled. During the summer, every student is encouraged to read a minimum number of books (see the number by grade level, above) and complete ONE PBL style project. Students should record their completed selections on their Summer Reading Log and submit that log and their PBL Summer Reading Project to their teacher (ELA teacher in grades 3-8) when they return in August.
There are many ways to locate books to read. Find titles in your home library collections; your local public library, many of which offer digital access; and resources through the BIA Innovation Station. (All BIA students can access the Gwinnett County Library collection with a library card.) Amazon and other commercial sites, also provide delivery of hard copy, digital, and audio books. We have also included information on Lexile Levels, a research-based system for evaluating and pairing readers with appropriate texts, and included Lexile Levels as available for the titles on the reading list.
